Well that’s another week that has flown by! I always think time will start to slow down but it doesn't seem to want too yet. Anyway, this week was a super fun week! The beginning of the week was super boring and not much really happened. Only thing that really happened on Tuesday was eating Chicken that was 5 dollars.... Never again... it was super tasty but afterwards we were dying. On Wednesday we had Zone meeting and it was a super good time our new zone leader is super awesome.

I was doing an exchange with our District leader, and Elder Ockey (from my MTC District) is companions with a district leader somewhere else in Ulsan Zone, and they decided to have a district leader meeting so me and Elder Ockey got to go on splits in an area we didn't know!! We went and did some proselyting in the area (neither of us know Korean) and ended getting invited to a restaurant by a guy. We then proceeded to teach him the ENTIRE Restoration. Possibly one of the funnest times I have had on my mission so far! The rest of the day was filled with lots of proselyting and some lessons.

The next day I came back to Bangoejin, and me and elder Cronin decided it was a good idea to have 20 dollars of ice cream for lunch, and the lady even decided to give us extra. Merry Christmas to us! The next day we decided to eat 20 dollars in pizza,  just the two of us. They told me I was gonna lose weight in Korea, so far I have been eating like a king this Christmas season!!!

We also got a new investigator whose name is Jason (Koreans like giving themselves english names, and Jason is the easiest one for them to pronounce) and he seems very promising! We will se how it goes.

Just yesterday our branch president's wife decided I will be playing flute this Saturday at the branch christmas party. We ate dinner at their house and then had a big practice afterwards.

That’s about it for this week! Still absolutely loving life and loving missionary work even more!!! Hope you all have a good week. Love Ya!!

Well we are now at another Pday... Somehow?? The week has officially, absolutely disappeared, time is going by super fast!!!! Anyway, the week was awesome! One weird thing, right before I started emailing I had a buddhist monk come and spank my rear-end randomly!!! He walked into a store we were at and was asking for donations, and turned around and was super surprised to see two white boys. He started trying to get us to memorize some Buddhist stuff and then came to me and patted my rear and called me handsome.

Last Pday we took the new sister in our area to the super cool hike that we did on district Pday. At FHE last Monday we made Crepes with some of the branch members and it was super fun! (I ended up getting stuck with keeping the children occupied by having them chase me around the room while everyone did other stuff)

Tuesday we met with 최정수 and ate lunch with him, we are going to hopefully meet with his parents this week. Scary thing is that we ate 5 dollar chicken that day, kinda sketchy.

On Wednesday we randomly got in a guys car that we had never met before and went to his house. But hey, he is super nice and now we get to teach him and his family. So, whatever works! The story behind that is that I started texting a number on accident and the guy wanted to meet us really badly, so we told him to meet us in front of the big store in our area (Homeplus) and he drove up, yelled to us to get in the car and now we have three new investigators from it! Yaaaay!!! He was super nice too.

We also have started to make a music video for our branch christmas party that is on the 24th. If you want to see sort of what we are doing look up the Hello Mormon Missionary parody. Our branch missionary, Seo Jung, is our director and she has been going super ham on making it! She is super good at it too!

This week we had the opportunity to meet two of our recent convert’s friends!! We got to eat with them at the church last night and it was awesome. Sister Jung Mee Oak had me help her clean fruit and she told me she thinks I didn’t work in the kitchen, so now she is determined to make me a master chef. I can clean fruit really well now thanks to her. Anyway, it was awesome to meet his friends. They are super nice and we think at least one of them will be willing to take the lessons. We also are preparing Yeat Lai Hor (Our most recent convert) and Kim Chang Ho to receive the Aaronic Priesthood. While our less active turned super strong member in a few days, will be getting the Melchizedek Priesthood pretty soon! Bangeojin is seeing a lot of progression to becoming a ward. We are working hard here to try and turn the Ulsan Area into a stake. There has been lots and lots of progression. Super awesome!

Love ya and talk to ya next week!

This week was pretty awesome! Two crazy things happened, the first being that I went on trainee exchanges with Elder Golden who was in the MTC at the same time I was. Both of us barely speak Korean and barely know how to get around. Plus the next day we had to make it to Daegu for a mission tour with an elder Whiting (from the 70) but more about that later. Anyway we rocked some proselyting and even taught an english lesson to a guy who barely speaks english and somehow we survived taking buses to the places we needed to go. I am super jealous of Elder Golden’s area, because right outside their apartment the have a free hot chocolate machine, so everyday they get free hot chocolate.... jealousyyyyyyy The next day of exchanges we had to travel to Daegu (about two hours away by bus) and we ended up being super late because the only Elder who knew how to get there was working out until we had to leave. His name is Elder Kim and he works out from 6AM to about 5 minutes before we have to get ready. We made it just in time to get to shake Elder Whiting’s hand though!! So we survived our trainee exchange!! It was a super great experience because it allowed me to realize I actually know more Korean than I thought, and it  was a real confidence booster for both me and elder Golden!!! Elder Whiting had a super good talk about receiving the holy ghost, my favorite quote was this: "We can either say when we wake up at 6:30 'I have to get up now so I can be obedient', or we can say 'I choose to get up now so that I can better have the holy ghost with me'" He had lots of other great quotes but my favorite part was when the three zones that were there all sang the closing hymn and the spirit was super super strong!!! I love being a missionary :)

Also we have some awesome senior missionaries named Sister and Elder Dustin, they made us a massive thanksgiving feast with American food!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I had mashed potatoes for the first time since the MTC!?!?!?!?!!!!!!!!! Yayyyyyyyy!!!! And they were actual potatoes!!!!! :)

The second crazy thing, was when I played our branch president’s (Kim Young Ay) wife again in ping-pong and found out that she went easy on me last time we played. I started beating her this time and she just went crazy and smashed it like 50 times on me, and beat me.... I love the members here so much though!!! The one sister (Jang Mee Oak) who brought us cake for our birthday acted like a cheerleader for me and kept cheering me on then told me I improved. And the the Sister Kim Young Ay bought us a bunch of meat for a pity party, haha. She always calls me her baby missionary and Sister Jang Mee Oak always feeds me tons of food trying to get me to gain weight. I LOVE BANGEOJIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They are way to nice to me here!!

The Christmas initiative is super fun as a missionary in Korea!!! We got special pass along cards and we have been giving a ton of them out. The Church gave out these cool little calendars to all the members and you scratch off each day and it tells you something to do. The first day was feed the missionaries...... hehehe. So we have had more than a few invites to members houses because of that:) Just yesterday I was able confirm Yeat Lai Hor a member of our church and it was super awesome!!!! I did it in english which was weird because I have been memorizing the blessings in Korean, but the words all just seemed to flow out when it came time to say them!! God knows and will help you if you have been trying hard! I was extremely nervous about doing it, but it went super well and he says he is extremely happy. "So happy he want cry" (His exact words) It is makes me so happy to bring such happiness to all these awesome people here in Korea!!! And he is such a good member already that he has decided to introduce 4 of his friends to us, and we are meeting them on Sunday! (He might even be bringing them to church) So we will be having another great week most likely. Yyyyyyy :) I am kind of sad that Korea doesn't go as hard as America for Christmas, that's one thing I miss a lot!! The Christmas spirit in America was sooo awesome!!! But I still think Korea has got the edge over Murica.. :) hehe I love being a missionary!! It is too much fun!!!!! :) I feel the spirit soooooooo much in everything I do!!! :) SO awesome!!! Love you all!!!! Have a great week and do work!!! :)

First Baptism!

This week was so great!! We had a baptism yesterday that went super great! Our investigator (Yeat Lai Hor, From Cambodia) was a super prepared guy. We had given him a word of wisdom pamphlet this week and he called us and told us he hated alcohol and cigarettes, and that he liked coffee and tea but he would stop drinking it if that was what God wanted. He also accepted Tithing without any problem, too. Just one example of God preparing the hearts of the people. We basically didn’t have to do anything. Elder Cronin performed the baptism, and I will do the confirmation on Sunday!

One sad part of the week was that Sister Yang is transferring out of Bangoejin. :( The beginning of this week was super great. Last p-day we went to a restaurant that was an all raw fish buffet for me and my companions birthday. I ate raw Octopus, crab, and all kinds of fish. It was super super good, who knew raw fish was so great? We also went to another fun little park place in our area and hiked around a bit, and then later that night some members came to the church after we held family home evening, and brought us some cake. They also fed us a ton of food on thanksgiving. Last Wednesday was super great, not only because it was my birthday, but because we got to go to Busan for a half training meeting and meet up with all my MTC buddies. It was awesome to see the progress that everyone has made, and hear some super funny stories about Elder Haskell lighting his hair on fire! As we were going home from Busan, I had gotten a package from home for my birthday, and when I opened it there were a bunch of cards from my family, and one of them was from one of my cousins. She said that she was wanting to become a missionary even more now, and that I was helping that decision. It was so awesome because one of the questions Sister Barrow (MTC teacher) had left us with was to look at how us being here was helping our family back home, and that letter was an immediate answer for me. Missions are the greatest!! I'm so glad that I am able to be a missionary, and one of the highlights of everyday is getting to put on the tag and go out and bring light to the people in Bangoejin!! If any of you are contemplating a mission, DO IT!!! You will be so much happier! I love life so much more right now because of this! Thanks everyone for the love and support that I receive from home, I feel it everyday!!!

Love ya!!

New Investigators!! And a public bath house

So to start this email I will just say that I had the weirdest morning of my entire life, probably the most uncomfortable one too! Everyone decided that for me and Elder Cronin’s birthdays, we would go to a public bath house in the morning. (President Barrow lets us go to these on p-days). So we went to a public bath house on the top of our grocery store. Soooooo weird, especially since the Koreans old guys who are always there never see white people come in. Soooo weird, I’m never going again.

This week was super fun though!! We met 2 new investigators in one night, and one of them we talked to for 5 minutes then he asked us when church started and came to church the next day! Then he said he was coming again next week!! Super weird but way awesome!! We will try and meet him again this week. We have now officially activated one less active member, and he will be receiving the priesthood in a couple of weeks. We also have met another person walking out of the gate at the church, which now makes three people we have met who have wanted to meet with us. (The gate is where we have our best proselyting time?) His English name is Jason, and he is one of the nicest people I have met. He is pretty good at English so I am able to have a conversation with him!! We will be meeting him again this Thursday. The baptism of At Lay Ho is still happening this Sunday after Church. It is a little sketchy though because we have more to teach him and he has no time, but luckily he gave up learning Korean this Saturday so we can meet with him. He is super excited to get baptized, and he loves all the members in our branch.
This week also had an absolutely massive protest in my area against Hyundai, thousands of people marched down the streets into Hyundai with tons of signs and stuff. Luckily, Koreans really aren’t that violent so all they did was walk down the street chanting stuff and singing songs and carrying poles so no one got hurt. This week I also played our branch president’s wife in ping pong, she killed me of course, she is wayyyy good at ping pong!! We also played against Kim Chang Ho, which was super hilarious. I have gotten a lot better at ping pong in my time here, and I have been getting trained by one of the young men name 강민 (Kong Min) He has been making sure that I get better!! I have a rematch set up with our branch president’s wife, and I have to play our branch president now sometime this week.

This past Saturday we had a young men and young women party at the church because they had just finished taking a massive test on Thursday. We had a big nerf war (which was super fun) and then we went and ate a ton of food downstairs!!!

The language is still challenging. Elder Romney, Our zone leader taught me some sweet ways to memorize stuff so I have started using that now, and I memorize 6 new words everyday!!

Love ya!!

So to start of this week I will say one thing, I actually need real glasses. I got fake glasses last p-day just for fun and one day we visited our recent convert, and since I got the glasses for real cheap he was mad at me because he thinks everything should be super expensive. So he took us to a real glasses store to get me real "fake" glasses (Like nice frames with just glass instead of the ones I had). We go into the store and he then has me just take an eye test, and we found out that my left eye is actually pretty bad so he ended up buying me glasses from the store.... super weird.

Anyway, this week has been super fun!! On tuesday we had zone meeting so I got to see Elder Ockey from my MTC district and we went out and ate a few pounds of meat like normal. As a mission we have all set the goal that for Christmas this year we are giving God a gift, and the gift is one baptism for each team in the mission!! Awesome! And ,we have a baptismal date coming up for one of our investigators on the 27th of this month!! He has been working super hard and spends a ton of his free time reading the Book of Mormon and studying English pamphlets (Because he speaks Cambodian he studies Korean and English a ton). Also this week we got a new investigator, his name is 이동석. Our first meeting with him was a little interesting because he originally told us he hated books like the Book of Mormon because they are just trying to copy the bible. But we asked him to give it a try and read the intro. When we met him the next time he had read way past the intro and really liked the book!! We will meet him again soon!! We also met a guy whose name is Mr  태, he was a little promising, because he believes that an apostasy did happen and that there is a true church somewhere!! He was super duper drunk when we talked to him though. Also, one of the less active men that we met outside the gate has been to church twice now, and yesterday he was paying his tithing! 2nd week back!!!!! He is awesome and super good guy.
This week we started running on the beach with the sisters at 6 AM at it is super fun, Even though it is super cold and the waves have soaked my shoes more than a couple times!! On Wednesday we scared the sisters super bad by banging on the church doors when no one was here but them, and then we jiggled a door knob of the room they were in!! It was especially scary because sometimes random sketchy people walk into the church when we are here. The crazy food I had was pretty bad, Pig liver, that was soooooooooooo gross, and blood sausage stuff that was kinda okay.

Anyways hope things are well at home, Korea is pretty fun!! I love the people here!! And today we are doing a district p-day in my area and going on a sweet Hike!!

It hurts me to write this email because of how much food I had last night! A member in the ward invited us and one of our investigators over yesterday and we legitimately ate about 5 Kilos of meat, soooooo much food, and it was sooo good!!! People told me I would lose weight coming to Korea, however all I am doing is gaining a ton of weight every week. It is a good thing though, even though I sleep most of it off in a night. We eat extremely well here in Bangoejin!!! So far I have been fed by members 7 times and each meal is soooo much food, somehow i eat past the point where I feel like my stomach is going to explode each time. The food is soooooooo good here!

This week was crazy fun! We had a stake music festival and it was one of the greatest things I have ever done in my life. Koreans are sooooo funny! One of the areas have an elder from New Zealand, so their branch did the Haka (I hope that’s how you spell it) and it was so awesome! Also Kim Chang Ho (recent convert) took us to a store and wanted me to buy a 500 dollar suit, then he decided he would buy me one, and then he decided he could find a better one online! I don’t exactly know what is going on with him but we have told him multiple times not to do it, but with him you never know what he is going to do. Anyway, one day while we were doing Jundo (proselyting) nobody wanted to talk to us, so after about an hour and a half we came back to the church, and as we were stepping through the gate we heard a guy just yell "Hello!" So we came back and talked to a nice Korean guy who used to come to this church 30 years ago, he asked if he could come in so we let him come in and he told us about how much the church building had changed since he was here. Later in the week he randomly called us and told us he wanted to give us some fruit called kom, and that he was going to come to church the next day. So, he came to church yesterday and had a great time and told us he would come to our english class and to church again next week and then proceeded to pull out a massive backpack full of the fruit, and gave it to us.

We met this guy on the street one night, and he seemed super nice and interested in our message, he really liked Christ but then he started talking how God came to Korea 100 years ago (And by the way there are some craaaaazy churches here, some that imprison people and drug them to believe their church), and we thought he was just drunk (Because Koreans get drunk quite often) and he told us he wanted to meet us on Sunday. So we met yesterday and got our branch mission leader to help us understand him better, but before we got him the guy didn't want us to go inside the Church and he was being super sketchy and wouldn't go inside the church, and when we told him we needed to get the member he told us he couldn't talk and that he just wanted to take us to someplace not even in our area. It was super sketchy, so we got the member and they talked for a little bit, but none of us know what the guy wanted and where he would have taken us. It was pretty weird.

I did get a new suit and you will see it in some of the pictures, I really like it! It is way nice and fits perfectly and was already hemmed when I bought it. Anyway, that's all from this week as far as my life. Loving life here in Korea! Love ya!!

This past week has been superb!! We now have an investigator with a baptismal date!!! Yay!! He is from Cambodia and knows some English, but it is very limited. He really likes the church and the things we believe in, and has had some crazy stories about feeling like he knows God is real and has had some crazy dreams he has told us about!! His name is 앳 랑이호! We met another investigator last week on Monday so my Pday was cut a little short but that is fine! His name is 최정수 and he is the same age as me. He is actually really good at english and we have formed a good relationship! The only problem is that his dad doesn't like the church... so he won't let him get baptized even though he had a baptismal date. Everyone pray for him please!!! He needs to be baptized!!!!
I have been lifting weights and I gained 2 whole pounds from one meal at a recent converts house yesterday, 2 whole pounds. I will be pretty big when I get home!! It is just me and Elder Cronin in the apartment. For our branch there are 2 sets of missionaries, us and two sisters! One is from Korea and the other is from Texas, they are both super funny and way fun to be around.

The things I have eaten..... Oh dear, they have some real good stuff but some other stuff.... ehhh. My favorite food is called 불고기 (bulgogi) which is a bunch of meat, and is is super good!! I also like something called 딱뽀기 (Tteokbokki) which is too hard to explain, I will send a picture. My least fave food is probably Kimche.. It isn't like it is really that bad, the taste is just kind of indescribable, and it makes my mouth feel funny!! But I made a goal that I have to eat at least a chunk of it no matter what, every time it is placed in front of me!! Another food I love is from a store called Paris Baguette here, and the ice cream they have is probably better then (never thought I'd say this) Edaleens Dairy... It is soooooo good!!!!! Also I got some awesome Chopsticks.

I do really enjoy it here, this area is the best because the members (which are mainly sisters in our branch) are so insanely nice!! They even drove us like 15 minutes in the opposite direction of their house to a different members house to eat!! Crazy nice!! And the members feed me so much food that I gain a pound or two or three. Korea is soooo fun, and the people here are so nice to us white boys, They always call us handsome, and I have gone to a few stores where the cashier gives me free stuff?? Haha they are so awesome here!!!

So I'm in Korea. It is going great. Love you, bye............................................... Hahahaha jk!! I actually am in Korea, and it is going super great!!! There are a lottttt of Koreans here in Korea by the way, Like almost everyone here is Korean, except some of the missionaries!! Hahaha It is a big change form home seeing about the whole town of sugar city in about 20 minutes of proselyting out here... haha My trainer is an elder from Salt lake area named Elder Cronin, He is super funny and we get along great! My first area is a relatively small city, which in reality is not even small, but for Korea it sorta is, and it is called 방어진 (Bongojiin) It is a peninsula and is right next to Ulsan. We are surrounded by 현데(Hyundai, and ps dad, apparently the article you read, I guess the owner says it wrong or something? sounds more like hee un day) shipyards and they have some massive cranes to load the cars onto the ships. The funny thing about living here is that when work gets off all the workers from the shipyards come out all on scooters, and there is about like 5 thousand scooters zipping down the main road haha. The food, oh the food... Haha it is definitely interesting!! So far I have eaten everything that has been place in front of me, including raw onions (they wrecked my breath, plus you know how I am about onions too...), the soup that they bring out boiling hot and you have to eat it boiling hot so my tongue has been destroyed lately, the food here gets pretty spicy, I had cereal like coco puffs, only it was thousands times better here, theres been ground up fish in a little stirp that they put in soup, kimche, kimche stew, some insanely good meats, and rice, and the rice here is sooooo good, the rice in America is gross compared to it!! I will send pcs of the foods as well! The members in 방어진 have already fed me twice, and the same sister wants to feed me again tomorrow, bless her heart. I love Koreans!!! Our branch is super funny, yesterday a recent convert Kim Jong Ho, who is a really rough type of guy, sat next to me and tried to make me sleep during church haha, and he kept calling me the boss of all the missionaries and said that I was a founder of teh church... He is really interesting haha. Tonight we meet one of our investigators 최정수 Chway Jong Soo, And I am way excitied, he is going to highschool so normally he doesnt have any time because the schools here go from 8 AM to 11PM (And I thought school was bad..) But today he gets off at 5 because of some massive test coming up. He is learning english so he likes to call us and talk in cute little broken english and since me and him are the same age, in Korea we automatically became friends!! Awesome! Korea is so fun!! I love it here!! You will probably have to come drag me out of Korea when I have to go home!!! Love ya!

Leavin' On A Jet Plane!

We were able to talk with Elder Davis for a 46 minutes this (his mom was counting) morning before he left for the mission field! He left Salt Lake City at about 8:30 this morning and flew to Seattle. Then it's onto an 11 hour flight to Tokyo. After a five hour layover in Tokyo, he'll be on his way to Busan. He'll arrive in Busan at about 6:30 am Tuesday morning our time, which will be 9:30 pm their time. That's a lot of time in an airplane for someone who hasn't been on a plane since before he was two, but he has 22 other missionaries to keep him company!

Was great to hear his voice and here how excited he is to get to Korea. He shared some Korean with us, sounded like jibberish! He even said our family prayer in Korean, amazing to feel the Spirit even when you don't understand what's being said. Thanks to someone very kind for texting these pictures to Zachary's mom!

Last e-mail from Utah!!

5 days until KOREA!!!!!!!!!!!!! YESSSSS!! This is what I have been training for and it is just around the corner!! We have been getting Korean culture lessons lately and it is so exciting to hear about the crazy stuff we get to do and food we get to eat!!! Flight plans are as follows, we leave MTC at 3:50, probably don't leave the airport for a little bit (leave at 8:37) but we get to Seattle at 9:48 their time, we have about a 2 hour layover there, then we leave for Tokyo Japan. We have a 5 hour layover in Japan, crazy,, then we leave for Busan!!! We arrive at 9:35 their time!! One of the elders in my district is jealous you got to go to Star Valley temple because he lives there and didn't get to see it.

I'm really sad to be leaving our awesome teachers. They helped so much!!! The language progressively gets better, although I wouldn't say easier just yet!! We had Elder Bednar speak last night and he did an awesome job!!! ! Anyways it is super exciting to be heading out this week!! Expect an influx in pictures once it is time to go!!! Love ya!!

Hey everyone!!
Hope you all had a great conference  weekend! It was so good this year; possibly because I actually payed attention this year. Well this is my 2nd to last p-day in Utah... It's so sad.. :( haha just kidding. I'm leaving to Korea in 12 days!!!!!!!! The MTC has treated me well, buuuuut it is definitely time for us to part ways. We get our new name tags (all in Korean) this week as well as our flight plans. I am not sure which one I am more excited for!!! This week we had some great devotionals, we had vocal point to end our conference Sunday and it was amazing.

Something I would like to share with everyone is one of my favorite Book of Mormon chapters, it is Alma 29. It is really helpful to me, because it talks about how Alma felt like he was inadequate, how he wished he could do more, so it is comforting to know that one of the greatest people in history felt like that, and it is a good way to move forward with my work. Another thing that was mentioned in the devotional last night was that God doesn't need us to do his work. He said himself that he could do his own work. He is Letting us have the privilege of doing this work so that we can grow. I know God is a loving God, and he has given us so much!! I love being a missionary so much!!!

How many missionaries can you fit on a bottom bunk? At least five!

3 weeks until Korea

Hey again friends!
Everything is going pretty good here in Provo. The worst part of the MTC has happened though, and that was watching the older district, who I've spent 6 weeks getting to know and love, leave for Seoul Nam, and Seoul missions; it was really sad and now we are the oldest district. Time is flying by!! I'm excited to get to know all the new missionaries coming in today and I have to teach them a lesson in two weeks. I've heard that these last few weeks are the fastest ones and I can't wait!! Because, frankly, I need to get to Korea. A funny story that happened yesterday, me Elders Matua, Clark and Plata were all in the room we call the chill room, and we were all so exhausted that we suddenly found ourselves all laying on the floor about to fall asleep until elder Clark said "What on earth are we doing?" And so we all got up and ran back to our classroom to stay awake. We have been hearing a lot of insane mission stories from our awesome teacher Bro Campbell so we are even more excited to leave. This Friday we begin to skype people from Korea and teach them 40 minute lessons in Korean.Yikes! It is going to be a lot of fun though!! I can't wait for general conference. Everyone and everything is going great here, we are just a little antsy to leave now. I started writing in a big Preach My Gospel that I am going to give to the next person to serve a mission so that they can see some of my insights on some gospel things. Love all of you and wish you the best!!!
